Seasonal Eating 101

Seasonal Eating 101

We all love to dress for the season, here are the top 5 reasons why we should all love eating for the season as well..

1. It’s better for your health

Foods that are grown and consumed during their appropriate seasons are more nutritionally dense vs. foods that are grown out of season.

2. It’s better for the environment

When you eat seasonal foods, it’s much easier to buy local and local means less fuel emissions

3. It tastes better

Seasonal = local = not mass produced = tastes better!!

4. It’s more cost effective

When a fruit or veggie is in season, there’s lots of them. And again, probably local so cut       down on transporting costs of getting the fruit or veggie from the farm to your kitchen

5. Supports Your Body’s Natural Nutritional Needs

This may be the last one but it is the MOST IMPORTANT! Winter vegetables offer comfort and are perfect for hot meals while summer foods, such as stone fruits, provide us with extra beta-carotenes to help protect us against sun damage. And so on and so forth.
